Brixton Cromwell 125 Review – The Smart First Bike for Urban Riders

You have been looking at 125s for a while. Everything on the market feels the same — the same generic silhouette, the same plastic panels, the same underpowered engines dressed up with stickers. And then you see the Brixton Cromwell 125 and something changes.

At €2,999, the Cromwell 125 is the cheapest way into the Brixton range. But it is not cheap in the way that matters. Brixton did not cut corners on the parts you see — the tank, the seat, the lines. And they did not cut corners on the parts that keep you safe — hydraulic disc brakes, LED lighting, a 14-litre fuel tank that gives you over 500 km of range.

What you get with the Cromwell 125

125cc single cylinder, air-cooled. 8.2 kW at 9,000 rpm. 9.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Top speed around 99 km/h. That is enough for every road you actually need to ride — city streets, B-roads, the commute that makes up 90% of your riding. It is not a motorway bike, and it does not pretend to be.

5-speed manual gearbox, electric start. KOSO LED indicators and LED front beams. Telescopic front fork, swingarm with dual rear shock absorbers. Hydraulic disc brake front (276 mm), hydraulic disc brake rear with CBS (220 mm). The CBS system links front and rear when you apply the rear brake — it helps you stop shorter than a normal rear brake on an entry-level bike.

Fuel consumption is listed at 2.3 L/100km. With the 14-litre tank, you are looking at over 500 km between fills. For a city commuter, that is genuinely useful.

Who the Cromwell 125 is built for

The Cromwell 125 is a first bike for riders who want something that looks good, handles well, and does not cost a fortune to run. Suitable for A1 restricted riders and car licence holders depending on your country’s rules — check your local requirements before buying.

770 mm seat height is one of the lowest in the Brixton range. That matters if you are under 175 cm, or if you just want a bike that is easy to handle at low speed. The Cromwell is predictable, balanced, and does not fight you in traffic.

The styling is British cafe racer inspired — the fuel tank is the signature element. It looks like something with history, not something that rolled off a generic assembly line. For €2,999, that matters.

The other Brixton 125s, briefly

If you are comparing the Cromwell 125 against other models in the Brixton range, here is the honest summary:

Model Price Style
Cromwell 125 €2,999 Street classic, British-inspired
Crossfire 125 XS €2,495 Aggressive, sporty
Crossfire 125 €3,745 Cafe racer
Felsberg 125 €3,299 Scrambler, off-road
Felsberg 125 XC €3,499 Enduro, trail-ready
Sunray 125 €3,599 Cafe racer, low bars
Rayburn 125 €3,699 Bobber, stripped

The Cromwell 125 is the cheapest way into the Brixton range. The €500-1,700 you save over other models goes toward gear, insurance, or just keeping your cash. If the Cromwell 125 does everything you need, there is no reason to spend more on a different model just because it has more badges.

What people ask before buying

Is 11 HP enough? Yes, for what this bike is built for. City streets, backroads, the daily commute — the Cromwell 125 handles all of it without feeling strained. On faster roads you will feel the limit, but that is true of any 125.

No ABS — is that a problem? CBS is not ABS, but it is better than nothing. The linked rear brake helps you stop shorter than a standard rear brake. If ABS is important to you, look at the higher-priced models.

Is it expensive to maintain? Air-cooled single cylinder — the simplest type of motorcycle engine. Fewer moving parts than a water-cooled engine. The service costs for a 125 are a fraction of what larger bikes cost.

Will it hold its value? Brixton is still growing as a brand. The 125 class is always in demand for learner riders. The Cromwell 125 does not depreciate the way some of the Japanese equivalents do.

Available colours

The Cromwell 125 comes in three colourways: Titan Black, grey, and yellow. All three are clean finishes — the yellow in particular stands out in traffic.
